Teatime Radio 21 January 2018 Jason King 1. The Two Leslies - Teas, Light Refreshments and Minerals (3:20) JASON #1 2. Blossom Toes - I'll Be Late For Tea (2:43) KING #1 "Welcome to Tea Time on Ellensburg Comunity Radio. First we went back to the thirties and The Two Leslies, that's Leslie Sarony and Leslie Holmes, with a song about the birth of taking advantage of tourists which came hand in hand with the popularity of the motor car. The we had English sixties psych pop band the Blossom Toes with I'll Be Late For Tea. Don't worry you're just in time for tea, or is it a dream? Let's ask John Holt." 3. John Holt - Ali Baba (2:39) JASON #2 4. Audioweb - Sleeper (3:48) KING #2 "You just heard Audioweb with Sleeper. Here are the Pretty Things with She Says Good Morning." 5. The Pretty Things - She Says Good Morning (3:24) JASON #3 6. The Breeders - Wait In The Car (2:01) KING #3 "That was The Breeders with a single released in the UK towards the end of last year. From Adam and the Ants first album Dirk Wears White Sox released back in 1979 before he became an eighties superstar, here he is having Car Trouble." 7. Adam And The Ants - Cartrouble (3:25) JASON #4 8. Edwin Star - Twenty Five Miles (3:19) KING #4 "After car trouble you may end up walking like Edwin Starr, hopefully not for twenty five miles. But hey that's Life as far as Sly and the Family Stone are concerned." 9. Sly And The Family Stone - Life (3:00) JASON #5 10. Peter Wyngarde - Neville Thumbcatch (4:28) KING #5 "That was Peter Wyngarde who sadly passed this week, aged 90 so good innings. An actor who could play a dandy like no-one else. Famous in the UK for his late sixties early seventies character Jason King which makes Austin Powers look like an uncouth slob. Jason King first appeared in the TV show Department S and then got his own show. You may know him from the film Flash Gordon where he lent his extraordinary voice to Klytus. Anyway back to Department S who were also a band who had one hit in 1980 with Is Vic There?, a line they got from a Monty Python LP." 11. Department S - Is Vic There? (3:07) JASON #6 12. Drenge - Running Wild (3:47) KING #6 "There was Drenge from a couple of years ago with Running Wild. Now for one of my favourite bands My Bloody Valentine with Only Shallow." 13. My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow (4:19) JASON #7 14. Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Egyptian Reggae (2:38) KING #7 "From the Baby Driver soundtrack, that was Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers with Egyptian Reggae. You are listening to and hopefully enjoying Tea Time on Ellensburg Community Radio. Check us out on eburgradio.org. Now for another Advert by Blur." 15. Blur - Advert (3:46) JASON #8 16. King Curtis & The Kingpins - Whole Lotta Love (2:43) KING #8 "King Curtis covering Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. Another cover of that song by CCS was used as a theme tune to UK TV show Top of the Pops which was compulsory viewing for any music fan. Another show from my childhood was Animal Magic, a show where Bristol zookeeper Johnny Morris voiced the animals. Looking back, it was a little weird but the theme tune was just so happy. Well hear for yourself, the song is called Las Vegas and is by great TV composer Laurie Johnson." 17. Laurie Johnson - Las Vegas (2:24) JASON #9 *CUE* 18. Pizzicato Five - Twiggy Twiggy / Twiggy vs. James Bond (Mix) (4:04) KING #9 "Japanese band Pizzicato Five trying to recapture the sixties with Twiggy versus James Bond. A year before Nancy Sinatra did a James Bond theme with You Only Live Twice, she did the theme and even starred in a spy spoof film called Last of the Secret Agents featuring comic duo Allen and Rossi, which I must admit passed us by in the UK." 19. Nancy Sinatra - The Last of the Secret Agents (2:49) JASON #10 20. Jamo Thomas & His Party Brothers Orchestra - I Spy (For The F.B.I) (2:35) KING #10 "Jamo Thomas spying for the FBI. Time for some 1969 English folk with Sunforest and their song Magician in the Mountain." 21. Sunforest - Magician In The Mountain (4:13) JASON #11 22. Rotary Connection - Magical World (4:22) KING #11 "Marshall Chess who was the son of Leonard Chess, who created Chess Records with his brother Phil, put together the Rotary Connection to take care of the music for the morning after. Only Kate Bush could write a song about Houdini from the angry point of view of the stooge in the audience who has to run up and kiss him to pass him the key." 23. Kate Bush - Houdini (3:50) JASON #12 24. The Attack - Magic In The Air (3:39) KING #12 "I only found out while putting this show together that Peter Wyngarde's Neville Thumbcatch which you heard earlier was originally done by the band you just heard, The Attack. If you have ever wondered what Ian Gillan and Roger Glover of Deep Purple were doing before, they were in a band called Episode Six and here's there song Mr. Universe." 25. Episode Six - Mr. Universe (4:22) JASON #13 26. The Chemistry Set - Albert Hofmann (5:13) KING #13 "The Chemistry Set with their song about Swiss scientist Albert Hofmann. Throughout musical history there are many bands with the same name and here's an example. Both born in 1964, one in the USA and one in the UK although a slight spelling difference. First we'll hear from the Byrds with a Y and Eight Miles High and then we'll hear the Birds with an I and No Good Without You." 27. The Byrds - Eight Miles High (3:35) JASON #14 28. The Birds - No Good Without You (2:41) KING #14 "What's that phrase, two birds one stoner. Not for me, I'm off to the bar with George Zimmerman and The Thrills. Who's round is it?" 29. George Zimmerman & The Thrills - Ain't Got The Money To Pay For This Drink (2:34) JASON #15 30. Betty Hall Jones - Buddy, Stay Off That Wine (2:17) KING #15 "You're right Betty Hall Jones, time for temperance because we don't want to end up in Tim Rose's position as a Long Time Man." 31. Tim Rose - Long Time Man (5:03) JASON #16 32. Blind Lemon Jefferson - Hangman's Blues (3:02) KING #16 "Blind Lemon Jefferson with the Hangman's Blues. One person who didn't seem that repentant walking up to the hangman's noose was Sam Hall and here's Gaslight Troubadours version of the tale." 33. The Gaslight Troubadours - Sam Hall (2:28) JASON #17 "We are at the end of another Tea Time. We are going to end with a band called Top Drawer and their 1969 Song of a Sinner. Thank for listening to Ellensburg Comunnity Radio and be sure to check out other shows like Waiting for Toast on at nine on Tuesday Mornings. Time to pour that last cuppa from the pot and see you next week for Tea Time." 34. Top Drawer - Song Of A Sinner (8:39) KING #17
