Teatime Playlist--Happy Birthday

Teatime Radio Happy Birthday, 7 January 2018

This playlist is available at: https://www.mixcloud.com/radiobloke/ 1. Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity - This Wheel's On Fire (3:31) BIRTH #1 2. Coldplay - God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (4:58) DAY #1 "Welcome to Tea-Time. You first heard Julie Driscoll with Brian Auger & The Trinity covering Dylan's This Wheel's On Fire. A version of that song was used as the theme tune to the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. Then we had Coldplay, a band you won't hear much on Tea-Time, but as it is the birthday of my wife (or 'trouble and strife' as the Cockneys would have it) and she likes their music . . . and I must admit I do like that song--especially with the video starring the great Paddy Considine--Coldplay are getting their 'one off' tonight. Now, because I'm a romantic, time to take the birthday grrl for a bit of a whirl; a Rebel Waltz with the Clash." 3. The Clash - Rebel Waltz (3:27) BIRTH #2 4. The Keys - From Tense To Loose To Slack (2:51) DAY #2 "That was The Keys with From Tense To Loose to Slack. Now for some Inspiration Information from Shuggie Otis." 5. Shuggie Otis - Inspiration Information (4:13) BIRTH #3 6. Public Service Broadcasting - Lit Up (4:54) DAY #3 "Public Service Broadcasting sampling BBC commentator and retired British Naval Officer Lieutenant-Commander Thomas Woodrooffe who bumped into a couple of mates in a pub before going on radio to describe the Royal Spithead Review in 1937. He lasted a couple of minutes before being taken off air and suspended a whole week for broadcasting while drunk. Obviously that'll never happen here *cough*. Next, poor Johnny Thunder is unable to put his arms around a memory." 7. Johnny Thunders - You Can't Put Your Arms Round A Memory (3:46) BIRTH #4 8. Richard Hawley - Down In The Woods (5:15) DAY #4 "There's Richard Hawley Down in the Woods. Now for something special, as I mentioned it is my missus's birthday today and she wanted to share it with you, the listener. So the next hour I am handing over to my missus and no, it is not because I am a cheapskate who hasn't got her any other gifts. So here is 'Sideshow Tia' with a little Happy Hour and I'll see you on the other side." 9. SIDESHOW TIA - HAPPY HOUR 1 (30:00) BIRTH #5 Happy Hour Radio Show *Big Band, Swing, Jazz and Blues* Play Station ID Disk One Walking through darkness, heels clacking on the greedy cobblestones of a forgotten street, I told myself, never again . . . and yet, here we are . . . Track 1: The Ecstasy of Gold—Ennio Morricone Track 2: Smells Like Teen Spirit —The Bad Plus 2. We were just listening to Ennio Morricone’s The Ecstasy of Gold from the soundtrack to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, followed by The Bad Plus covering Nirvana classic, ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. This is Sideshow Tia sitting in for Nature Boy Bloke, for a happy hour of Teatime, on Ellensburg Community Radio. Track 3: Nat King Cole—Nature Boy Track 4: Nina Simone—Feelin’ Good That was Mr. Nat King Cole with ‘Nature Boy’ followed by Ms. Nina Simone’s ‘Feelin’ Good’. Personally, I’d say I’m most naturally feeling good when I’m feeling free . . . But then, what does it mean to be free? Is it really just another word for nothing left to lose? Let’s ask Ms. Etta James and Little Walter what they think . . . Track 5: I’d Rather Go Blind—Etta James Track 6: Juke—Little Walter That was Ms. Etta James with ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ followed by Mr. Little Walter with ‘Juke’ both giving their take on the ties that unbind . . . and I I can’t help thinking, that perhaps in a land of idiot kings, broken promises and tarnished dreams, freedom is as freedom does . . . Track 7: That’s Why the Lady is a Tramp—Ella Fitzgerald Track 8: It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing—Duke Ellington End Happy Hour Disk One Play Station ID Disk Two Previous to the station ID was Ms. Ella Fitzgerald singing That’s Why the Lady is a Tramp followed by Mr. Duke Ellington and his orchestra, with ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing (if it ain’t got that swing)’ and finally, there was a little excerpt from the Six-String Samurai Soundtrack. Each of those artists have shared their take on freedom . . . Freedom to me, means being in it for the long haul . . . it means taking it to the bridge on a Sunday night, ideally, in good company . . . which is where I am right now. I’m settled in here at the station, with you, waiting for my Bloke to show . . . or rather, my Bloke’s show, which will be starting in just a few more ‘Brief and Breezy’ minutes from now. Track 9: Brief and Breezy—Mancini Track 10: Why don’t you do right—Peggy Lee and Benny Goodman Orchestra That was Henry Mancini’s ‘Brief and Breezy’ followed by Peggy Lee with ‘Why Don’t You Do Right (like some other men do)’. I have to say, some girls have all the luck . . . and I guess I’m one of those girls. My Bloke always does right by me. It wasn’t always that way though. I think probably everyone has had to say ‘Good Morning, Heartache’ at one time or another . . . Track 11: Good Morning, Heart Ache—Billie Holiday Track 12: C’est Si Bon—Eartha Kitt That was Lady Day with Good Morning Heartache, and Ms. Eartha Kitt with ‘C’est Si Bon’ or as my friends back in Bellingham used to say ‘It’s all good’ . . . Well now, during that last set, my Bloke showed up with a nice cuppa . . . a proper ‘builders tea’ . . . which strangely enough, seems to have gone straight to my head. I think the Chairman of the Board knows what I’m talking about . . . Track 13: You go to my head . . . Frank Sinatra Track 14: Edith Piaf—Non je ne regrette rien That was Mr. Frank Sinatra with ‘You Go to My Head’, followed by Edith Piaf with ‘Non je ne regrette rien’ — ‘I regret nothing’. The last song I will be playing tonight is a long passage by Miles Davis called ‘Freddie Freeloader’ after which I hope you will all stay tuned for a return to your regularly scheduled Bloke. Thank you for sharing a happy hour of tea time with me . . . and when you get around to it, be sure to sleep tight. Track 15: Miles Davis—Freddie Freeloader—Kind of Blue End Happy Hour Disk Two "A big thank you to Sideshow Tia, that was great. Expect an happy hour from time to time in future shows. For tonight, Happy Hour may be over but the good times aren't." 11. RJD2 - Good Times Roll, Pt.1 (2:58) BIRTH #6 12. Apollo 440 - Ain't Talkin' 'bout Dub (4:31) DAY #6 "Apollo 440 Ain't Talking 'Bout Dub. Let's get miles away with UK group Gomez." 13. Gomez - Get Miles (5:17) BIRTH #7 14. Fold - Oil Powered Machine (2:18) DAY #7 "Fold sampling Mike Ruppert, a writer, musician, LA police officer, investigative journalist and political activist. Definately a guy who had an interesting live. Another guy who had an interesting life is my wife's dad, Edward James, and this next song is dedicated to him. Eric Burdon and The Animals with Sky Pilot." 15. Eric Burdon & The Animals - Sky Pilot (7:24) BIRTH #8 16. Soulsavers - You Will Miss Me When I Burn (3:49) DAY #8 "Soulsavers featuring Ellensburg's very own Mark Lanegan with You Will Miss Me When I Burn. We are at the end of another Tea Time. I hope you enjoyed it, especially Sideshow Tia's Happy Hour. We are finishing with Paul Hartnoll, one half of Orbital, with his project 8:58 and the track The Clock featuring the great Irish actor Cillian Murphy. Thank you for listening and see you for a cuppa next week at Tea Time." 17. 8:58 - The Clock (3:10) DAY #9
